Joseph R. Martin

Mr. Martin has been Of Counsel to Provosty, Sadler, deLaunay, Fiorenza & Sobel since 2001 Mr. Martin has 25 years of experience in commercial litigation, healthcare regulation and estate planning.

Education

Mr. Martin earned a B.A. in Economics, Cum Laude, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 1980 and a Juris Doctorate, Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University, 1984.

Narrative

Mr. Martin has tried many jury cases in many venues in Louisiana and several other stated in the Southeast. Mr. Martin owned and operated a consulting company that provided Medicare compliance services to clients across the country. For the last ten years, Mr. Martin’s practice has focused on estate planning.

Mr. Martin has been a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association since 1984. He is admitted to practice before all of the Federal Courts of Louisiana, including the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. From 1990 to present, Mr. Martin has been an Assistant Bar Examiner for the Louisiana State Bar Association, Successions and Donations. Mr. Martin served as Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Home Care Association of Louisiana and was a Member of the Credentialing Task Force for Consultants for the National Association of Home Care.

E. Trent McCarthy 

Attorney Brief

Mr. McCarthy has been Of Counsel with the firm since 2004.  He has more than 20 years of experience in the areas of commercial litigation and contractual disputes, with an emphasis on creditors’ rights. His practice also includes probate law.

Education

B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1985 and Juris Doctorate from LSU Law School in 1989.

Narrative

Mr. McCarthy utilized computer technology to systematize the practice of protecting the rights of creditors of commercial and consumer debt.  Mr. McCarthy has worked with the Louisiana legislature to draft and assist in passing legislation favorable to creditors.  Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. McCarthy was on the staff of former Louisiana Governor, David C. Treen.  Mr. McCarthy holds a BV® Peer Review Rated certification from Martindale-Hubbell.   Mr. McCarthy is also a certified Parliamentarian.

John W. Maloy

Attorney Brief

Mr. Maloy joined the firm as an associate in April, 1999.  In 2003 he accepted a position as an Assistant Attorney General with the Louisiana Department of Justice. As an Assistant Attorney General, he was responsible for representing the State of Louisiana in five areas:  general liability, road hazard, workers’ compensation, civil rights, and medical malpractice. In 2006, Mr. Maloy was appointed First Assistant District Attorney for Winn Parish Louisiana. In his present capacity, he represents and advises the Winn Parish School Board and the Winn Parish Police Jury, as well as, prosecuting felony, misdemeanor, and juvenile crimes within Winn Parish.  Mr. Maloy resumed his affiliation with the firm by accepting Of Counsel status in May 2006. Mr. Maloy concentrates in General Civil Litigation and Wills and Succession.

B.A. from Northwestern State University in 1991 and Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University, Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1998.

Mr. Maloy has more than ten years experience in public and private litigation experience.

Mr. Maloy has been a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association Criminal Law since 1999. He is also a member of the Alexandria Bar Association and Workers’ Compensation, the Winn Parish Bar Association.  Mr. Maloy has served as an adjunct instructor in the Criminal Justice Department of Northwestern State University, where he taught a course on the adjudication process in criminal prosecutions. In 2010, he served as the Event Chair for the American Cancer Association’s Relay for Life.

David T. Marler

Attorney Brief

Mr. Marler has been with the firm since 2009 and works, primarily, in the LegalShieldSM Department of the firm.  Previously, he was in solo practice with experience in the areas of contract formation, negotiation and dispute, construction law, successions, estate planning issues, and landlord lease formation. He maintains a general law practice.

Mr. Marler holds a B.S. Degree from Louisiana State University of Baton Rouge, 1983 and a Juris Doctorate from Thomas Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan, 1999.

Mr. Marler has served on the Advisory Board of NextStep, a non-profit organization located in Central Louisiana, which is dedicated to improving the lives of victims of domestic violence.  He also serves as Treasurer for the Campaign to Elect Chris Hazel, District 27, Louisiana House of Representatives.
